Ulkatcho First Nation - Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the financial stewardship of Ulkatcho First Nation. In a leadership role, the CFO ensures a transparent and accountable organization while helping shape the future of UFN through sound financial advice and planning that align with community values and long-term strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with the Chief Administrative Officer and other departmental leaders.
- Prepare and present quarterly financial reports to Chief and Council.
- Support external audit preparations, liaison with auditors, ensure timely completion of audit requirements and strict compliance with audit schedules.
- Collect, interpret, and report on financial data to support strategic decision-making.
- Monitor financial performance against budgets, analyze variances, and assess risks.
- Develop, implement and oversee all financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems
- Prepare reports and evaluations for individual projects and initiatives.
- Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures related to budgeting, forecasting, and program tracking.
- Stay current with relevant legislation, regulations, and policies affecting financial reporting and operations, ensuring organizational compliance.
- Lead, supervise, and mentor finance staff in accounting processes, reporting, internal controls, and financial planning.
- Investigate discrepancies or variances in budgets and financial reports, implementing corrective measures.
- Strong human resource experience and oversight of the human resource department
- Supervise payroll processing, benefits administration, and related reporting and filings.
- Community reporting and meetings as required
- Ensure internal controls and policies related to financial and administrative functions comply with federal and provincial laws and regulations and CAS.
- Work with UFN Directors to provide financial guidance and support.
- Ad hoc reporting and requests as necessary to ensure the smooth fiscal management of the organization
Qualifications:
- Canadian CPA designation supported by a bachelor’s degree in commerce, business administration, accounting, or a related field with preference given to those also holding a Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager designation
- Minimum of five years of progressive experience in a First Nation organization providing financial leadership and mentoring
- Expert knowledge of federal payroll laws, capital asset management, and Public Sector Accounting Standards
- Extensive experience with budgeting, internal controls, and strategic planning
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven leadership, negotiation, conflict resolution, and team-building skills.
- Valid driver’s license and a clear Criminal Record Check.
Work Location:
This position is based in person in Anahim Lake, BC, situated on the western edge of the Chilcotin District. The region offers outdoor activities such as fishing, wildlife viewing, guided horseback riding, hiking, and winter snowmobiling.
Compensation:
Salary range: $130,000.00 - $ 145,000.00 annually.
A competitive benefit package is offered, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
