Finance Director
Position Summary:
The Director of Finance, as the senior most financial position within the organization, is directly responsible for the establishment and maintenance of financial policies, procedures, internal controls and reporting systems. The position is responsible for the supervision all accounting functions of Ulkatcho First Nation. The Director of Finance shall also ensure the legal and regulatory compliance for all Ulkatcho First Nation accounting and financial reporting functions is met.

Job Duties:
- Working closely with the Operations Manager
- Monthly reports to Chief and Council
- Ensure operations are in alignment with Strategic Plan and support its progress
- Develop of 5-year fiscal plan in conjunction with Strategic Plan
- Report on a regular basis regarding organizational status against, and ability to meet, its strategic and operational objectives.
- Collect and analyze cost data versus budget for ascertaining financial performance and risk assessment.
- Administer, and ensure compliance with, UFN Finance Policy and Human Resource Policy
- Manage budget and controls expenses.
- Prepare reports and evaluations for individual projects.
- Develop, monitor and enforce policies and procedures relevant to accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and project tracking.
- Communicate and collaborate with departmental leaders to stay abreast of spending, budgeting, reports, and evaluation.
- Monitor legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to financial reporting and operations, and ensure Ulkatcho First Nation compliance.
- Lead and supervise finance department staff on accounting, reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and other financial matters.
- Investigate variances in budgets, reporting, internal controls, and general accounting; deploy measures to resolve variances.
- Maintain communication with all funding agencies and ensure program compliance including reporting
- Supervise the Finance Office daily operations.
- Maintain financial records according to Canadian GAAP
- Oversees the payroll and benefit processing, payroll reporting and filings and ensures compliance with all applicable laws
- Assists with and provides information for external audit preparations.
- Manages day-to-day supervision of finance team.
- Monitors the controls all policies and procedures related to financial and general administrative functions in accordance with accounting principles and relevant federal and provincial laws and regulations.
- Works with UFN Directors to provide support and guidance in finance procedures
- Perform, Accounts Receivables, Payables and Payroll duties as required.
- Ensures all reporting deadlines are met
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- CPA (Canadian) designation, preferably in conjunction with a CAFM designation. A combination of education with proven experience may be considered.
- Five years’ experience minimum in either a Not-For-Profit or First Nation organization
- Expert knowledge of Canadian GAAP and PSAB
- Expert experience and knowledge in dealing with accounting systems, budgets, internal controls, business planning, and asset management.
- Experience with Sage 300 an asset.
- Proven teamwork and team building skills.
- Proven ability to professionally communicate both verbally and in writing.
- High level of proficiency with Office 365 with expert knowledge of Excel
- Valid Driver’s License and clear Criminal Record Check
