Human Resources Generalist (Manager)

Notice: UFN is currently conducting an internal review and restructuring of the Human Resources department. As a result, the title of this position may be revised.
· In consultation with the Human Resources Director or Chief Financial Officer and management team, develops, implements, and maintains human resources policies, programs, management training, HR information sessions, and related procedures and practices that are consistent with all relevant standards and legislation.
· Provides a full range of support for administrative business activities, including the collection of data for reporting purposes, document preparation, and processing basic accounting transactions.
· Verifies transactions and documents submitted for processing, such as proposals, approvals, tracking, filing, and coding supporting documentation to ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines.
· Supports the Human Resources Director or Chief Financial Officer and team members in monitoring, measuring, budgeting, and reporting processes and other administrative duties.
· Works with managers to support and track absence management including approvals of vacation requests, sick time, leaves of absence, etc.
· Coordinates the administration of the organization’s benefits plan (enrollment, leaves, maintenance, WorkSafe BC and LTD claims, terminations, and billings). Develops and monitors employee return to work and accommodation plans.
· Coordinates recruitment efforts for staff and contractors, including screening, interviewing, conducting due diligence checks, presenting offers of employment, and preparing employees for assignments by establishing and conducting orientation and training programs.
· Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable federal and provincial HR requirements (including the Canada Labour Code), conducting investigations, and maintaining records.
· Identifies and recommends areas of improvement to internal standard operating procedures, including team restructuring and morale.
· Manages a compensation plan by conducting periodic pay surveys, monitoring, and scheduling individual pay actions, recommending, planning, and implementing pay structure revisions.
· Investigates, reports on, and resolves HR-related incidents including allegations of breach of privacy or confidentiality.
· Adheres to all policies and procedures.
· Works closely with the HR assistant.
· Performs other related duties as required.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities
· Support departments in the development and delivery of strategic HR plans to fit with the overall business direction.
· Plan, monitor, and appraise HR activities by scheduling management conferences with employees, hearing and resolving employee grievances, training managers to coach and discipline employees, and counseling employees and supervisors.
· Champion the onboarding process, ensuring the process is up to date and of high quality, providing clarity and connection for all employees and their role in relation to the overall vision.
· Maintain management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures.
· Build strong relationships with external suppliers, fostering trust and promoting collaboration.
· Handle confidential matters with discretion.
· Ensures employment records are maintained and are in compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
· Collects and analyzes HR data; prepares regular and ad hoc reports, makes recommendations based on findings, and implements approved actions. Completes stakeholder surveys as required.
· Leads the Health and Safety Committee.
· Assists in the development and tracking of proposals, applications, and other pertinent documentation.
· Other duties as assigned by Human Resources Director or Chief Financial Officer.
Skills and Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration
· A minimum of three years of experience in human resources, or business administration.
· We will consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Exceptional communication skills – Excellent verbal and written communication with 100% fluency in English.
· Ethical and unbiased mindset.
· Committed to fair process, transparency, and structurally fair service provision.
· Adept in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
· Extensive knowledge of HR policies and systems.
· Familiarity with HR software and working knowledge of MS Office.
· Demonstrated ability to interpret and make decisions in accordance with human resource policies, procedures, and employment standards.
· Strong proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
· Knowledge of environmental and industry trends impacting organizations and shaping the future of work and workforces.
· Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications:
Chartered professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) or Certified Indigenous Human Resources Professional (CIHRP) designation are an asset.
Hours of Work: Normal Day shifts – 8:30 AM-4:30 PM. Non-normal shifts may be required.
Pay Grade: Starting Wage $33.33- $41.60 per hour (depending on education & experience)
